Article Title HPV detection by in situ hybridisation in sinonasal inverted papilloma and squamous cell carcinoma
Abstract Dear Editor:
Sinonasal inverted papilloma (SNIP) is a rare benign but locally aggressive tumour with an annual incidence of approximately 0.5–1.5/100 000, accounting for 4.7% of all sinonasal tumours. SNIP may recur and can transform into sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma (SNSCC) (1). Human papillomavirus (HPV) has been linked to SNIP recurrence and malignant progression, with a meta-analysis reporting the incidence of HPV in SNIP as 16.9% (2).
This aligns with the results of our previous prospective study (17.8%), showing that the presence of HPV DNA was associated with SNIP recurrence in 90 patients undergoing surgery (3).
